Syracuse, Indiana, a town of approximately 3,000 full time residents and 35,000 seasonal residents, lies in the northeastern corner of Kosciusko County, with easy access from US 6 to SR 13 on the north, and from US 30 to SR 13 on the south.

There are seven lakes in and around the town, making it a water lover's paradise. Lake Wawasee, the largest of these lakes, is the largest natural lake in Indiana. With access to Syracuse Lake, there are more than 3,500 acres of water for year round recreation. There are also many homes and condominiums for out of town guests to rent while they enjoy the Syracuse area.

Lake Wawasee also hosts the state-owned Wawasee Family Fishing Site. Located on the southeast shores, opportunities to fish, picnic and relax in the outdoors await you. Several local marinas are available who charge a nominal fee to use their private boat ramps. Boaters enjoy the convenience of five lakeside marinas for supplies, fuel, boat repairs and maintenance. You can rent a fishing boat, pontoon boat, or jet skis at several locations on the lake.

As the lake freezes completely over almost every winter, year-round residents enjoy snowmobiling, ice fishing, and ice boating during the winter months.

The lake has 25 miles of shoreline with over 1000 lakefront homes and condos. Additional homes are located on the channel waterways which have access to the lake.

The lake has seen a lot of history. For instance, some of the first scientific lake studies conducted anywhere in the world were done in Indiana. Indiana University established a field station on Lake Wawasee in 1895. And Eli Lilly, the pharmaceutical giant, spent his boyhood on the Lake and has written books about his experiences.
